About Art Kunkin

Art Kunkin is the journalist who founded the alternative weekly newspaper, “The Los Angeles Free Press,” (1964 to the present) to oppose war and help the Cultural Creatives of our time rebuild society on humanist foundations. He was president of the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles after the passing of Manly Palmer Hall and was a Professor of Journalism at California State University, Northridge campus for five years. After graduating The Bronx High School of Science, he attended The New School For Social Research in New York City after which he became a master machinist, toolmaker and labor organizer in the auto and aircraft industries. During the last 81 years, he has also started and owned several large business operations employing hundreds of people.

After 30 years of laboratory research he believes he has rediscovered the Philosophers Stone of longevity and expects to live for 200 years or more. Art is a graduate of the seven year alchemy apprenticeship course at Paracelsus Research Society in Salt Lake City and has traveled to many countries visiting alchemical laboratories. Art has studied meditation and various spiritual disciplines with Tibetan Buddhists, Islamis Sufis, Hindu Yogis, Jewish Kabbalists, Gurdjieff groups, Hawaiian Kahunas, and Christian mystics. He is presently on the Advisory Board of The Institute of Mentalphysics in Joshua Tree, California where he teaches various tools for self-development including alchemy and stopping the aging process.
